Do I need a doctor’s order?

In most cases, yes. A valid lab order tells us which tests are needed and which laboratory should process the specimens.  LabCorp and Sonora Quest allow you to self-order your own labs without a doctor’s order.  Kits from specialty laboratories are also a popular option.  Please mention if you have a kit when you schedule your appointment!

Where can the appointment take place?

Appointments can typically be completed at your residence, workplace, assisted living community, senior care facility, or another safe and approved location. A clean, well-lit area with a chair and table is recommended for the visit.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Follow any instructions from your healthcare provider or the laboratory. If fasting is required, do not eat or drink anything except water for the instructed period. Staying well hydrated, unless your provider has told you otherwise, can help make the blood draw easier.  You can always reach out to Ideal Mobile Lab and we may be able to help with instructions.

Most appointments take about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of tests ordered, patient needs, and specimen handling requirements. Some specialty kits or difficult draws may take longer.

What should I have ready when the phlebotomist arrives?

Please have your lab order, photo ID, insurance card if needed for lab billing, and any specialty test kit available. If the patient is a minor, a parent or legal guardian must be present for the entire appointment.

Results are usually released by the testing laboratory to your ordering healthcare provider. Mobile phlebotomy services collect and transport specimens, but they typically do not interpret results, diagnose conditions, or provide medical advice.
